Basin Electric wins award for support of National Guard

Basin Electric Power Cooperative in Bismarck received the Employer Support Freedom Award for its support of National Guard and Reserve employees.

Business analyst for Basin Electric, Kimberly Miller, nominated the company for the award. Miller is a member of the National Guard who was deployed to Kosovo in 2009.

“It was very overwhelming to see just how many people sent emails just to check on you, or care packages. At Christmastime I actually got wrapped presents from Basic Electric,” Miller said.

Basin Electric was one of 3,200 companies nominated; only 15 received the award. Basic Electric was the only company in North Dakota to receive the award.

“Basin is a really caring organization, not just to military members but within the community,” Miller said.

Basin Electric’s manager of communication, Mary Klecker-Green said Basin has a long history of being an employer of choice.

“At Basin Electric we are a family and Basin Electric takes care of its family,” Green said. “And especially with regard to service men and women, Basin has taken great strides to make their time away from home as comfort and worry free, relatively speaking, as possible.”

Basin Electric makes sure the military member’s pay is made whole throughout the deployment. The company also gives laptops, care packages and full health benefits to the military members while overseas.
